Small scale funding opportunities

Applications are welcome for projects starting in 2011-12.

Guidelines for applicants

These guidelines have been created to help colleagues consider whether they wish to apply for funds to do with small-scale initiatives with our U21 partners and to assist in the application process.

The fund provides a contribution towards costs that will facilitate staff in engaging with U21 institutions.  It is expected that the applicant’s Department/College will make an equal or greater contribution.

Initiatives might include, for example, attending U21 conferences/events or contributing towards the costs  of incoming U21 visits, i.e hosting a lunch.

Nature of the award and eligibility

Applicants should note that:

  • The expectation is that these awards are partial funds, applicants that can demonstrate part-funding from their budget centre will be looked on favourably
  • Awards are expected to be no more than £500.  For activities that require substantially more funds, please check our Special Projects guidelines
  • Awards will be at the discretion of the U21 Advisory Group or designated official
  • The award is open to academic and non-academic staff (or teams) who are full time employees and have completed their probationary period
  • The award cannot be used for UK U21 institutions exclusively

Successful applicants will be expected to:

  • Write a report outlining the initiative and any outcomes
  • Staff will be expected to act as an ambassador on behalf of the University of Birmingham during their activities. It is possible that they will be called upon to undertake additional duties as a representative of the University and in the spirit of U21 collaboration and cooperation (where appropriate).
