The University of Birmingham welcomes applications from students from Iraq. The University has distinguished alumni from Iraq and has been actively engaged in working with Iraqi universities to support their development and build relationships.
The University of Birmingham is a founder member of the British Universities Iraq Consortium. As a member of BUIC we are pleased to be working closely with the Higher Committee for Education Development (HCED) in Iraq to facilitate study opportunities for students supported by the Prime Minister’s scholarship initiative www.hcediraq.org . Students who have been awarded a scholarship by HCED can apply through BUIC using the dedicated BUIC application form which can be found at www.buic.ac.uk .

Foundation Programme
Students who have obtained good grades in the Iraqi high school leaving certificate will be required to study a one year Foundation Programme before progressing to their chosen undergraduate degree programme.
School-leavers should have achieved an overall average of 85% in the Sixth Form Baccalaureat in order to be considered for entry to a foundation programme.

Undergraduate Study
We will consider students who have successfully completed a recognised Foundation programme or have successfully completed at least two years of study at a recognised Iraqi university.
The University will consider students who have taken GCE A Level examinations and the International Baccalaureate (IB) for entrance to undergraduate programmes. For more information please visit the Undergraduate Prospectus site at www.undergraduate.bham.ac.uk.
Postgraduate Study
Students with a good four year honours degree with minimum of 75% from a recognised university will be considered for postgraduate study at the University of Birmingham.
In addition to meeting the academic entrance requirements, students may need to have a recognised English language qualification.
The most commonly accepted qualifications are the IELTS exam (minimum scores from 6.0-7.0) and TOEFL (minimum from 550-600 paper based, 213-250 computer based or 80-100 Internet based). Minimum requirements vary according to the chosen programme.
