The University of Birmingham and Pakistan

The University of Birmingham welcomes applications from well-qualified students from Pakistan. We currently have more than 75 Pakistani students studying a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Qualification recognition

The following information is for guidance only and should be used together with the University's general entrance requirements and any specific degree programme requirements.

Please note: If you have taken exams which are from another country's national education system (eg the Arbitur from Germany or SAT and AP exams from the USA) you should consult the country specific section for that country for qualification equivalence information. If you are unsure about the acceptability of your qualifications for entry to Birmingham please contact us for further details.

Undergraduate study

The University will consider students who have successfully completed a Bachelors (Honours) degree of at least two years duration. Degrees must be from a Higher Education Commission recognised institution in Pakistan.

For more information visit the Undergraduate Prospectus site at www.undergraduate.bham.ac.uk.

International Foundation Programme (IFP)
The University's IFP provides a route for applicants who have successfully completed their secondary education, but whose qualification is not accepted in the UK. This is usually the case when countries have a 12 year education system.

Students who have achieved excellent results in their 12 year Higher Secondary Certificate (HSSC) exams with overall percentages of 70% or better will be considered for entry to the International Foundation Programme.

For more information visit the International Foundation Programme page on the Undergraduate Prospectus site.

Postgraduate study

Students with a four-year bachelor degree may be considered for entry to a postgraduate degree programme.

Students with a bachelor degree of at least three years duration followed by a master's degree of one or two years duration may also be considered for postgraduate entry.

If a candidate has a two-year bachelor degree and a two-year master’s degree in the same subject, he/she can be considered for entry to a postgraduate degree programme. If the degrees are in different subjects, the student is unlikely to have enough in-depth subject knowledge.

All qualifications must be from HEC recognised institutions. A CGPA of 3.2/4 or 65% from a Pakistani university is usually equivalent to Birmingham's standard entry criteria.

For more information visit the Postgraduate Prospectus site at www.postgraduate.bham.ac.uk.
