In addition to academic qualifications, you may be required to provide evidence of your English language ability. There are also opportunities for ongoing English language support while you are at University.
In order to benefit from your studies, you need to demonstrate that you have a good level of written and spoken English before taking up a place here. Some courses of study have higher levels of English requirements, which will be stated in your offer letter.
You can find out more about minimum English language requirements on the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Prospectus websites:

If your offer to study at the University of Birmingham is conditional on you completing a 20, 10 or 6 week Presessional English course or a 20, 15, 10 or 6 week Business Management English Course, you are required to attend and successfully complete one of these English Courses before the start of the academic year.
Please note that failure to complete the English course successfully will mean that you have not fulfilled the conditions of your offer. We will not be able to accept any other English language results after this point, and our offer to you to study at the University of Birmingham will be withdrawn for that academic year.
You may however, wish to resubmit your application or defer your entry to the following academic year, in order to continue to improve your level of English and to meet our language requirement.
