Departments must be ranked 5/5* for research purposes. Candidates must have a first class honours/overseas equivalent first degree from an institution of very high standing.

Applicants must:

• Be academically outstanding
• Be overseas for fee purposes and from one of the eligible countries
• Have a qualification at least equivalent to a UK first-class honours degree from a prestigious academic institution
• Have been accepted to commence a PhD or DPhil

The competition is open to students who have started their PhDs, but only those who have started since the close of the previous DHPA competition at each University.
