Currently abroad?

We really hope that you are enjoying your year abroad! We would love you to keep us up to date with how you are getting on, so please feel free to email us any stories or photos that we can put up on the website to studyabroad@bham.ac.uk.

Staying in touch

It is essential that you keep in touch with your department here at Birmingham and check your University email account and Web CT regularly. You can find more information in section 5.6 of your handbook.

Accessing your University email account

Your email account can be accessed via the web if you type the following URL into a web browser – http://ex1.bham.ac.uk.

You will then be prompted to enter your username and password which is the same as that which you would normally use to login to your University account.

WebCT
You will also be able to access WebCT remotely as normal by going to www.weblearn.bham.ac.uk and selecting log in to WebCT. University email and/or WebCT will be used to communicate with you throughout your year abroad to give you information and deadlines regarding paperwork, assessment, returning to Birmingham and other useful information.

Handbooks

You can download a PDF copy of your handbook from the Preparing to go abroad page.

Be an ambassador for Birmingham

All of our exchange programmes work on a reciprocal basis meaning we agree to accept the same number of students from our partner institutions as we send to them. If we are unsuccessful in attracting students here from our partner institution, it is likely the agreement will end due to an imbalance in student numbers.

To allow us to continue offering the same wide range of year abroad destinations to Birmingham students, we depend on you as outgoing exchange students to act as ambassadors for the University. This could involve:

  • Volunteering to participate in a study abroad fair
  • Giving a presentation to prospective students
  • Talking to your housemates and classmates about Birmingham
  • Informing the Study Abroad and Exchanges Office about promotional events happening at your host university

It is vital to us that you take advantage of any of these opportunities and the Study Abroad and Exchanges Office will support you in this by providing PowerPoint presentations, literature and promotional items if you request them. Please email us at studyabroad@bham.ac.uk if you have been asked to volunteer at any events, or require any promotional items.
