English language requirements

Erasmus students are not usually required to prove their English language abilities; however, all students studying at the University of Birmingham are required to have a good working knowledge of English before commencing their studies. Students may be required to return home if, for linguistic reasons, they cannot manage the academic work for which they have registered.

All International Exchange and Study Abroad students who are non-native speakers of English and Erasmus students applying for the Certificate of English Law must provide us with an official English Language qualification. The required level will vary according to the subject area you apply for. A list of subject-specific requirements can be found at www.undergraduate.bham.ac.uk/entry/international.shtml.

For details of the English Language requirements for the Study Abroad Programme please visit the Study Abroad page.
